Rest Easy (Part Two): Think Happy Thoughts

Hi Sleepy Head,

Before you fall asleep, don’t think about the stresses of today. As J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan once said, ‘to fly you must think happy thoughts’. I think the same can be applied to dreaming as it did for flying–minus the Pixie Dust.

I am not an insomniac, but I do have trouble sleeping for many different reasons. In order to take on tasks and do well in your daily routine, it is essential to have a rested body and mind. The reason for this, is that our brain rejuvenates itself, so to speak, and prepares us both mentally and physically for the following day ahead.

Try to fall asleep even if you aren’t that tired. Before you fall asleep, don’t think about the stresses. As J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan once said, ‘to fly you must think happy thoughts’. I think the same can be applied to dreaming as it did for flying–minus the Pixie Dust.

Bottom line: sleep will do you good, plus it brightens your mood.

Here are 5 steps to get you started:

  1.  Try not to be around artificial lights before bedtime because it tricks the brain into thinking it’s daytime.
  2.  If you can’t sleep, chances are, you are thinking about stuff that are irrelevant during sleep. Stop thinking about it.
  3. Pure lavender oil really helps since it has biological properties that stimulates the melatonin (sleep hormone) in your body.
  4.  Don’t stress out, it will make you more alert. Therefore, no sleep.
  5. Think happy thoughts.

I hope these tips help you not only to sleep easy but rest easy!
